Saucony-Triumph 20

My first pair of Saucony brand but it won't be my last!

I have tried several brands in the past and some of the best such as Acsis, Hoka, Sketchers and more. All have a purpose and are valuable in their own function. This review is based on my opinion and I gain nothing in return from Saucony.

"Amazon affiliates earn small commissions on qualifying purchases!"

I have been training for my first half marathon coming up later this month. The runners, Hoka Rincon 3, that I have been wearing reached their km usage and it was time to purchase new shoes. I was nervous, this close to my first marathon and breaking in a new pair of shoes didn't sound like the best idea.

With the 3 fs in mind purchasing my new shoes, off I went to a Saucony retail store. Fit, Feel, & Function needed to be covered to make me happy.

My First Impression

As I am walking to the store, I see 60% off posters on the window. YES, a sale. Even more excited, I enter the store, inside the doors, walls lined with a variety of colours, and sizes of sneakers for every occasion. I was a kid in a candy store.

In the past, before becoming serious about running, I was all about the look and cost of a pair of sneakers. It was just something to wear on my feet after all.

Now? It's a big decision where requirements must be met. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good sale and like pretty stuff. I have learned over the years though, that you get what you pay for therefore cost was at the bottom of the list yet still on the list because I am not rich yet, unfortunately.

I am pretty sure, my eyes were like saucers with excitement. I walked the aisles, viewing all the choices I had to choose from.

Fit, Feel, Function

I settled on 2 pairs to choose from thanks to the advice of the worker at the store, which was very knowledgeable I might add.

They both fit, I went a half size bigger than I usually do because I have learnt that my feet swell when running, lesson learned.

The feel was ok for the second pair (don't recall the name of those) but OMG, Triumph 20 was like pillows on my feet. If you ever tried on something like a wedding dress and knew it was "the one", this was like that. The formfit on the inside felt amazing. I had extra space for the swelling. I walked down the aisle with the shoe on and I felt the bounce.

I had my sneakers for my easy jogs to my first half marathon. Bonus, got a sale and they look great.

Pros and Cons

The cost may be a con to some, they are expensive and I completely get it. Lucky for you, I am an Amazon affiliate and you can purchase Saucony through Amazon. Great product at a lower cost.

A definite pro is a deep cushion for maximum comfort that lasts. It's also very light on your feet with carbon rubber.

For me, I bought this sneaker for longer runs therefore speed wasn't a consideration. This sneaker isn't necessarily intended for speed. Something you may want to consider if you want short and fast runs. If speed is what you seek, consider Saucony Ride 16.

One adjustment I did have to adjust to was the lower heel cut. All I have known was a higher cut at the heel. This was a pleasant surprise.

I have never bought sneakers before and not gotten blisters...until now!

5 stars

I am in love with this sneaker. I have learned so much from beginning my run journey 4 years ago. I went from thinking about only the cost and looks of the sneaker when purchasing a new pair to adding the 3 fs to help make the right decision and avoid past mistakes.

Mistakes to avoid, learn from me:

  1. Don't buy based on looks. Focus on fit, feel, and function

  2. People don't ask about discounts. Many retailers offer discounts to first responders with proof of ID and also to running clubs. Join a club!

  3. Buying shoes too small. Avoid blisters and getting black toenails. I have a black baby toenail from a past mistake, not fun or attractive.

  4. Shopping at the wrong time of day. Did you know as the day goes on, swelling occurs? Shop in the morning.

  5. Don't assume your size. Get your feet measured. Different brands and countries have different sizing charts.

  6. If you order online (I see the appeal), make sure they offer a good return or exchange policy)

Now, go run the distances you dream. Log it, because hey, if not recorded, did it count? My choice is Garmin Vivoactive 4. I love mine. Of course, the choices are endless.
